PFA goals
The goal of PFA is to reduce psychological distress by:
- Providing a caring and comforting presence
- Enhancing survivor’s or witness’s safety
- Addressing basic needs such as food and medical attention
- Providing connections to existing support networks
- Empowering individuals by supporting their strengths and
- encouraging existing coping skills
- Providing referrals to mental health professional and other services as needed
- PFA is designed for use by non-mental health professionals while serving in an emergency response role, which motorsport officials often happen to perform
- Peer supporters trained to respond as part of the organized disaster response effort
- May also be provided by medical or and mental health personnel
