PFA goals

The goal of PFA is to reduce psychological distress by:

  • Providing a caring and comforting presence
  • Enhancing survivor’s or witness’s safety
  • Addressing basic needs such as food and medical attention
  • Providing connections to existing support networks
  • Empowering individuals by supporting their strengths and
  • encouraging existing coping skills
  • Providing referrals to mental health professional and other services as needed
  • PFA is designed for use by non-mental health professionals while serving in an emergency response role, which motorsport officials often happen to perform
  • Peer supporters trained to respond as part of the organized disaster response effort
  • May also be provided by medical or and mental health personnel
